It was officially Adam's 20th\nbirthday when midnight arrived, and he felt Power swirl in his chest\nat long last. He didn't feel his bedroom's carpet underneath his toes\nanymore, and vertigo churned in his gut as the top of his head grazed\nthe ceiling. Crimson psychic energy rolled off him like steam, the\nflowing mist pulsating to the rhythm of his heartbeat.

The world\nremained in this blurred, deafening mess for another 20 seconds or so\nbefore it abruptly ended, and the air left Adam's lungs when his\nchest crashed against the floor. Things went black after that.

\n\tWhen he was awake again, he\nwas still on his bedroom floor. Everything was back to being in high\ndefinition, but his skin still vibrated uncomfortably with Power.

\n\t“Fuck me,” he said,\nexerting a lot more effort than necessary to get to his feet.

\n\t“Are you okay?” he heard\nJasmine say, and when he spun he found his sister in the doorway,\nstaring as if his head were on backwards.

\n\t“The fuck were you doing?”

\n\t“Tripped on my shoes. I'm an\nidiot– “

\n\t“You're an idiot!” Jasmine\nsaid, bursting into laughter. “Oh my god, I thought you broke your\nneck or something!”

\n\tAdam chuckled, rubbing his\nsore chest. “Nope, just dumb. How long was I out?”

\n\t“I ran up here as soon as I\nheard you crash and burn, so probably, like, not even 30 seconds.”

\n\t“Cool... I'm OK though, I\nthink.”

\n\t“Well good,” she said.\n“I'm going back down stairs. You need anything, clumsy?”

\n\t“Haha, nah. I'm good.”

\n\t“Kay.” Jasmine said, and\nvanished back down stairs. \n

\n\tAdam\nlet out a breath, and fell back against his mattress. That would have\nbeen a great time to test his powers, and the thought had crossed his\nmind, but there just wasn't enough energy in his muscles to jerk off,\nlet alone fuck.

\n\tIt'd felt nice to be back\nthough. It was more than a century go when Frederick cast the\nreincarnation spell, and Adam remembered the panic that gripped him\nas his vision grew dark, thinking this had been all for nothing, that\nthe witch's curse had ended his story his story then and there.

\n\tThe\nnext day, Adam didn't make it to work. He'd slept through his entire\nshift, as well as the twenty or so calls his supervisor made that\nmorning, finally waking up sometime around 4:00 PM. During his short\ntrek to the bathroom, he'd decided that he wouldn't go back to that\njob. He also decided he didn't want to work at all anymore. With his\nPower back, the humans around him were practically walking banks.

\n\tHe left the bathroom and made\nhis way down stairs, spotting his parents piled on the sofa as they\noften did on Saturdays. Thomas took up most of the couch, lying on\nhis back, idly swiping the face of the iPad propped against his\nlarge, round belly, and using Grace's thighs as a pillow. Adam's\nmother was caught up in the TV hanging over the fireplace, watching\nsome DIY show. \n

\n\t“Hey y'all,” Adam said as\nhe walked past them to get to the kitchen.

\n\t“Thought you was at work,”\nAdam heard his dad say.

\n\t“Nah, I'm off today.” Adam\nopened the fridge and snagged himself a canned soda, then schlepped\nto the kitchen doorway. His mom was on her feet, coming at him with\nher arms and her smile wide. \n\t“Well...” Adam cracked\nopen his soda and slurped some before taking one of the plushy\narmchairs. “I plan on giving my Power a test drive.”

\n\tHis parents erupted in\nconfused laughter.

\n\t“Whatcha mean?” Thomas\nsaid, scooching to the edge of the sofa.

\n\t“Oh, I'm an Incubus, dad.”

\n\tThomas lifted a brow and said,\n“A what?”

\n\tGrace looked just as confused.\n“Yeah, what is – wait, like the band?”
