Chapter 1

Julie walked through the gate into the arrivals hall at Brandenburg Airport, anxiety clear on her face. She looked around, hoping Sarah would be there already and wouldn’t keep her waiting. She wasn’t anxious that she was alone in Europe for the first time since her early 20s, but because she had been forbidden from using the bathroom on the 9 hour flight from Newark. She was regretting it now though, the air in the plane was so dry she’d been drinking a lot of water to stop herself from coughing. “Umm, I was expecting someone else”, this turn of events had unsettled her, she was expecting Sarah to meet her personally.

“Sarah sent me to pick you up, her flight has been delayed, she will be a few more hours, so we will go to the apartment and then I will come back to pick up Sarah. She said to say that she hoped Lisa gave you a good sendoff when you left home.”

Julie’s stomach fluttered, she was nervous, but this man knew enough that he must be who he said he was. She was also a little relieved, it had been a very long day, and she could do with a rest and a wash before seeing Sarah. “How far is it? I really need the bathroom.”

“It will be about 45 minutes.”

Julie winced; she’d hoped it would be a shorter journey. “ok then, lets go”. She started to push her luggage trolley in the direction of the exit, but the chauffer intervened.

“Please, let me take your things. Follow me please.” He pushed her trolley towards the exit and Julie followed, apprehensive, but knowing she was safe.

“Let me use the bathroom first, I’ll just be a minute”. Julie looked around for the ladies' room and was about to head to it when the chauffer spoke.

“She also said you are still forbidden from using the bathroom.”

He looked at the discomfort on her face, glanced down and confirmed to Julie that her bulge was indeed visible. “I am sorry.” He did look genuinely sorry; he did not like to see women in distress.

“Justin, what is your involvement with Sarah, and what are we doing in the apartment?” Julie asked him these questions first, though there were hundreds queued up in her mind.

“Please, can we just go? Sarah will answer all your questions when she arrives. And please call me chauffeur or driver.” He briefly made eye contact with Julie as he said this, she could see there was shame or embarrassment in his eyes.

She swallowed. “Ok, driver, let's go.”

He walked off without a word, pushing Julie’s trolley in front of him. She followed, mind spinning about what was going to happen, her bladder, impossible to ignore, hurt with every step she took.

The traffic flow was fine until they got near Tempelhof where it ground to a halt.

“I am sorry, the traffic is bad from here into the centre, it is like this every day at this time.” said the driver.

“Maybe another 25 minutes?”

Julie pulled a face. “In the lounge, bitch, if I allow you to sleep Or maybe the hallway if you displease me” He nodded, not very happy with this turn of events, but he knew he was lucky to just be in Sarah’s presence so he said nothing and took Julies things to the spare room.

“Julie go and get dressed, I’m hungry!”

Julie ran down the hall, following the silent servant. He put her bag on the bed, and turned, eyes cast down and asked if Julie needed anything else. She didn’t, so he retreated back to the lounge where Sarah was waiting for him.

Chapter 3

Sarah and Julie walked arm in arm to the restaurant, which was literally a 5 minute walk away. They made small talk and asked about each other's families and jobs, which they continued to do as they say down at their table and the waiter handed them their menus.
