A little under six weeks ago, on November 1st, Noah\nreceived an unexpected email from an unknown sender. He almost sent the email\ndirectly to his spam folder, but curiosity got the better of him, and he opened\nit up.

The email congratulated the bespectacled student on being\ngifted sole control of The Christmas Wish App. Only one such instance existed,\nand it would grant him one wish every day until Christmas Day. Once the special\nday was over, the app would disappear from his cell phone, and all his wishes\nwould become permanent.

Before he had the opportunity to dismiss the email as a\nweird joke, Noah found an app had automatically begun to install on his phone.\nOnce the installation was complete, there was no option to remove the program.\nAfter several attempts to reboot his phone or offload the app through his\nsettings, the blue-eyed college student relented and opened the application.

Before navigating the program, Noah was required to\naccept a long list of rules. Being a Psychology major, he knew the importance\nof reading the terms and conditions before accepting them, so he began scanning\neach line. The app would grant Noah one single wish each day up to and\nincluding the 25th of December. He was not allowed to directly wish for money.\nHe was unable to cause death, nor was he allowed to bring anyone back from the\ndead. He couldn’t force anyone to fall in love with\nanother person and wasn’t allowed to wish for any loopholes to grant him\nfurther wishes. Finally, he was unable to use a wish to directly reverse a\nprevious wish.

He quickly accepted and found a basic display with a\nlarge text box covering most of the screen. Above the text box, the words’ 1\nDaily Wish Remaining…’ were displayed. There was also a settings icon in the\nlower left corner, but Noah immediately focused on the text box. He figured his\nroommate, Isaac, had played a practical job on him. Being a Computer Science\nmajor, this was definitely within his skill set. Nonetheless, he typed in his\nfirst ‘wish’: I wish Isaac and I lived in the best dorm on campus.

He gasped as his surroundings transformed immediately.\nWhere he once stood in the middle of a cramped, moldy two-bed dorm room, he\nsuddenly found himself in a light, airy, spacious living room with large bay\nwindows overlooking the university. The dorm would have been better described\nas a luxury two-bedroom apartment than a college dorm. He stared at his phone\nin disbelief, noticing the text at the top of the app now displayed ‘0\nDaily Wishes Remaining…’. How was this possible?

Back to the present, Isaac returned to the sofa and\nhanded his buddy a beer before jumping into his seat. Noah gasped as he read. He had made some fucked up wishes\nrecently, but that one just felt wrong. “Damn, man, you’re\ntaking that breakup with Lana pretty badly.”

Isaac clenched his fist at the mention of his\nex-girlfriend’s name, “That bitch cheated on me with my high school\nrival!” He exclaimed, clearly angry at the thought of it. Noah held his hands\nup in surrender, not wanting to upset his friend further. As they watched the\nTV, Noah remembered how his friend had gained possession of the Christmas Wish\nApp, too.

When Isaac returned from classes the evening of November\n1st, Noah was amused to find his friend was totally unaware of the mammoth\nchange to their living situation. He acted as though they had lived in the\nluxury apartment since they enrolled at the college last year. Digging deeper\ninto the app’s settings, Noah discovered that he could toggle whether\nthe recipient of a wish was aware or unaware of the changes, as well as\ntoggling the awareness of individual people. Everyone other than Noah was set\nto unaware by default, but everything changed when he changed the settings for\nIsaac.

Isaac was amazed by the app’s sheer power and\nfrustrated when he attempted to use the program himself but received a message\ninforming him that he didn’t have the correct permissions. The African-American\nwas a computer science genius, far and away at the top of his class and even\nmore knowledgeable than his own professors.

He spent the next two weeks looking into the app’s\nsource code and was amazed to find that it was written in a programming\nlanguage he had never seen before. It didn’t take him long to work his way\naround the code, though, and he soon managed to bypass the app’s one-device\nrestriction, altering it to two. He managed to send himself a copy and gasped\nwhen he entered his first wish: ‘I wish I could see what my girlfriend, Lana,\nwas doing right now.’

His amazement soon turned to terror when a screen\nappeared in front of the bow-tied black man. He witnessed his long-distance\ngirlfriend on her hands and knees, being fucked by a familiar face, his arch\nnemesis Harvey Burns.

The betrayed man shuddered as his friend brought him back\nto the present. He jovially punched him in the arm as Isaac stared out into\nspace. “You need to get over her, man. Greg’s smirk widened, eyeing his study partner\nup and down as if he were appraising an expensive piece of art. “Anything\neventful or unusual happen today?” the dark-haired student asked his confused\ncompanion.

Noah rolled his eyes. The lingering stare creeped the\nfour-eyes student out; whatever dumb wish Isaac had made seemed to affect his\nrival as well. “Unusual? The entire damn campus has gone\nmad!” Noah exclaimed. “I need to find Isaac and get this ironed out.” He couldn’t\nuse his wish to reverse the effects when he didn’t know what his friend had\nwished for in the first place.

Greg eyed Noah up and down one more time. “How\nabout you take a look in the mirror over there,” he said, pointing to a\nfull-length mirror Noah had never noticed before.

Noah immediately stepped towards the tall, reflective\nsurface before he even realized he was obeying Greg’s\nsuggestion. He stared at himself and shrugged. He still wore the same\nblack-rimmed glasses on his face. He wore the same navy blue checkered shirt\nand red V-neck sweater he had worn a hundred times before. “Ohh, you’re about to\nfind out,” Greg responded ominously. There was a tense pause until Noah spoke\ntwo more words that changed everything. “Wake up.”

In an instant, Noah’s entire vision had\nshifted. Suddenly, in front of the nerdy student stood the most beautiful woman\nhe had ever seen. She was a walking wet dream, just perfect in every way.
